Pakistani communities in Houston and Dallas organized thanksgiving gatherings to celebrate Pakistan’s recent victory over India, using the occasion to emphasize unity, peace, and solidarity with the people of Kashmir.
In Houston, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Consul General Ashfaq Chaudhry, and various community leaders addressed participants through video link. Simultaneously in Dallas, a significant event was held under the auspices of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee.
The central theme revolved around “The role of the Pakistani-American community in the context of recent India-Pakistan tensions and the Kashmir conflict.” The objective was to promote peace in South Asia while encouraging the Pakistani diaspora to act as a unified, diplomatic force advocating for justice and human rights on the global stage.
The event attracted a wide range of attendees including community leaders, political figures, doctors, lawyers, youth, and professionals from diverse fields.
Consul General Chaudhry, who attended as the chief guest, commended the contributions of overseas Pakistanis, stating, “The community projects a positive image of Pakistan in the United States. Our embassy and consulates stand with them and are committed to their welfare.”
He added, “While today is a moment of national celebration, we must not forget the ongoing struggles of our Pakistani and Kashmiri brothers facing oppression. Human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir are an undeniable global concern. Pakistan will continue to extend moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people.”
Chaudhry stressed that although Pakistan advocates peace, it is fully prepared to defend itself against any aggression. “Our armed forces and the nation remain resolute in facing any challenge,” he affirmed.
He also encouraged the Pakistani-American community to become more involved in U.S. political processes, emphasizing that Kashmir is not merely a territorial matter, but a grave humanitarian issue that needs global attention.
Prominent attorney Naim Sakhiya highlighted the importance of the diaspora, saying that overseas Pakistanis not only contribute significantly to the national economy through remittances but also serve as Pakistan’s global representatives.
