The federal government has declared Friday, May 16, as Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to honour the Pakistan Armed Forces for their decisive success in Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.
According to official sources, the day will begin with Qur’an recitations and special prayers held in mosques across the country, offering thanks for the nation’s safety and stability.
A 31-gun salute will be conducted in the federal capital, while 21-gun salutes will take place in each of the provincial capitals to mark the national celebration.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies are scheduled in Islamabad as well as in all provincial capitals. In a symbolic tribute, changing of the guards ceremonies will also be held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi and Mazar-e-Iqbal in Lahore.
Wreath-laying ceremonies and special prayers will be held at martyrs’ memorials nationwide. Meetings with the families of the fallen heroes of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos are also planned to acknowledge their sacrifice and resilience.
The main event will take place on Friday night at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, featuring a high-profile gathering of civil, military, and public representatives. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the chief guest, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Youm-e-Tashakur is intended to unite the nation in appreciation of the Armed Forces’ role in defending the country and ensuring peace in the face of recent threats.
