The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new initiative offering lifetime ID cards to citizens who voluntarily register as organ donors. These ID cards will feature a green heart symbol, signifying the individual’s humanitarian commitment.
According to NADRA’s announcement on social media, individuals aged 18 and above who are registered with the relevant donor authorities can apply for these specially marked Smart National Identity Cards (SNIC) or NICOPs. Applications can be submitted either by visiting the nearest NADRA registration centre or through the Pak-ID mobile app.
In a related move, NADRA has also collaborated with provincial governments to modernize civil registration systems. A new digital birth and death registration system is being implemented across hospitals and healthcare centres nationwide. This project falls under the “Uraan Pakistan” initiative, which aims to harness technology for improved governance and economic development.
The upgraded registration system is part of the National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework and is being developed in partnership with the World Bank. It is designed to provide more accurate and comprehensive tracking of life events.
Additionally, NADRA has begun offering first-time applicants free ID card issuance, simplifying the identity registration process and making it more accessible for citizens.
These measures reflect a broader effort by NADRA to modernize Pakistan’s identification infrastructure, with a focus on digital transformation, security, and affordability.
