Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has accused India of promoting a misleading narrative to distort facts and divert attention from its alleged acts of aggression and its support for terrorism within Pakistan.
In an interview with RT Arabic, Lt Gen Chaudhry disclosed that the recent ceasefire between the two countries was initiated at the request of India’s Ministry of Defence following heightened cross-border tensions. Pakistan agreed to the proposal in the spirit of promoting regional peace and stability.
“To truly grasp the current state of India-Pakistan relations, one must consider the broader strategic context,” he noted. “India has consistently been involved in funding and facilitating terrorism, especially targeting Pakistan.”
Referring to the recent Pahalgam incident, Lt Gen Chaudhry criticized Indian media outlets for prematurely blaming Pakistan. “Within minutes of the incident, Indian social and mainstream media began circulating unfounded allegations. Yet, two days later, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs admitted that investigations were still underway. How can such accusations be made without any verified evidence?”
He added that Pakistan had offered to cooperate in an impartial international investigation, but India rejected the proposal. “Rather than choosing diplomatic engagement, India responded with unilateral military aggression. Missiles targeted our mosques, leading to the martyrdom of innocent women, children, and elderly citizens.”
Lt Gen Chaudhry asserted that India, which he labeled as the main sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, is backing extremist elements ranging from Khawarij factions to separatist groups in Balochistan.
Highlighting recent hostilities, he stated that India carried out attacks during the night of May 6 and 7, prompting the Pakistan Air Force to shoot down five Indian aircraft. “On May 9 and 10, India launched additional missile strikes in an apparent attempt to create panic. However, they underestimated the resolve of the Pakistani people and their armed forces.”
Pakistan, he said, responded with restraint and responsibility on the morning of May 10, targeting only Indian military positions. “No civilian areas were harmed. It was a deliberate, measured, and just response.”
Lt Gen Chaudhry confirmed that following Pakistan’s calibrated response, India’s Ministry of Defence reached out to request a ceasefire. “We agreed, because our primary goal is lasting peace in the region,” he remarked, praising Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the standoff.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, the DG ISPR concluded, “We are not a violent nation. We are a mature, serious, and responsible state. Peace is our highest priority.”
