A deadly explosion struck near a reproductive health clinic in Palm Springs, California, on Saturday, killing one person and injuring at least four others. The FBI has categorized the incident as an “intentional act of terrorism.”
Akil Davis, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, stated during a press briefing that a person of interest has been identified, although no suspects are currently being sought. Additional information about the individual has not been made public.
The explosion occurred shortly before 11 a.m. local time, outside the American Reproductive Centres (ARC) clinic. The blast caused extensive damage, with the victim found near a vehicle that was completely destroyed in front of the facility.
Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte indicated that the explosive device was either placed in or next to the parked vehicle. The force of the blast tore a hole in the single-story clinic building and caused damage to nearby structures.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been informed of the situation, and emergency response teams are continuing their work on the scene.
American Reproductive Centres, which operates multiple clinics throughout the state, offers services such as in vitro fertilization, genetic screening, and egg donation. Despite the damage, ARC confirmed that its Palm Springs location will resume full operations by Monday. The clinic’s laboratory and all stored reproductive materials—including eggs and embryos—remained intact, and all staff members were unharmed.
Dr. Maher Abdallah, the clinic’s director, shared a message of resilience on Facebook: “The moment has shaken us — but it has not stopped us.”
