KARACHI: The Sindh government has declared Wednesday, May 28, 2025, a public holiday in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted in 1998.
A notification issued by the Chief Secretary of Sindh on Monday confirmed that all provincial government offices, departments, autonomous bodies, and local councils across Sindh will remain closed for the day.
In line with the government’s announcement, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has also declared a suspension of trading activities on May 28. According to an official statement, the PSX closure aligns with the national holiday declared by the federal government.
“All concerned are hereby informed that Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, being a public holiday declared by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer,” the PSX notice stated.
Youm-e-Takbeer marks the day when Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in the Chagai district of Balochistan on May 28, 1998, in response to India’s nuclear detonations. The tests made Pakistan the seventh nuclear-armed nation in the world and the first in the Muslim world.
Each year, the nation observes this day with pride, remembering the significant milestone in the country’s defense capabilities and strategic standing.
