Humanitarian Aid
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday called for the international community to urgently ensure the consistent and timely delivery of critical humanitarian aid to the besieged population of Gaza.
His remarks came during a telephonic conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, during which both leaders discussed pressing regional and international developments, with a particular focus on the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of sustained international support to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians, reiterating Pakistan’s firm stance in favor of peace and justice in the Middle East.
He expressed hope that the upcoming United Nations Conference on the Two-State Solution, scheduled for next month, would deliver concrete and positive outcomes aimed at ending the prolonged conflict and securing a viable, independent Palestinian state.
During their cordial exchange, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also conveyed deep appreciation for Egypt’s constructive and measured role in regional diplomacy, especially during the recent tensions between Pakistan and India. He lauded Egypt’s balanced statements and proactive engagement, which contributed significantly to the de-escalation of hostilities in South Asia.
Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, the prime minister praised the country’s armed forces for their unwavering defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reiterated Pakistan’s adherence to the ceasefire understanding with India as part of its broader vision for regional harmony.
Shehbaz Sharif also voiced serious concern over India’s threats to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty—a cornerstone agreement that ensures water rights between the two nations. He warned that such a move would cross a “red line” for Pakistan, and called on the international community to take note of the potential repercussions.
Turning to bilateral ties, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the state of Pakistan-Egypt relations and agreed on the need to expand economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment.
President Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s desire to strengthen ties with Pakistan across multiple sectors and commended Pakistan’s humanitarian support to Gaza.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended a formal invitation to President Al-Sisi to visit Pakistan, which the Egyptian leader graciously accepted, marking another step forward in deepening diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
