SARGODHA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the University of Sargodha on Thursday, where she distributed laptops and Honhaar scholarships to students from across the Sargodha division. She also congratulated the students for their contributions to the success of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsus, acknowledging their dedication and patriotism.
A salute by the Sargodha Police contingent marked the ceremony, adding a ceremonial touch to the celebration of academic and civic achievement.
According to official figures, a total of 2,983 laptops and 2,491 Honhaar scholarships were awarded. Of these, students from government universities received 2,587 laptops and 1,975 scholarships. In addition, 93 medical college students were given laptops and 55 scholarships, while 303 college students will receive laptops and 461 scholarships under the program.
During her visit, CM Maryam Nawaz also inaugurated the Nawaz Sharif Flyover in Sargodha. Provincial Minister Sohaib Ahmed Bharth briefed her on the project, which was completed in just eight months at a cost of Rs2.2 billion. The 1.3-kilometer-long flyover is expected to handle over 30,000 vehicles daily, providing significant relief to commuters from Khushab, Mianwali, and Bhakkar.
Heatwave Alert and Precautionary Measures
In response to an impending severe heatwave, CM Maryam Nawaz directed the administrations in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sargodha to remain on high alert. She instructed rescue services to take all necessary steps to mitigate the effects of extreme heat, especially for vulnerable populations.
She urged the public to take preventive measures, advising children, the elderly, and those with health conditions to stay indoors. Farmers were asked to provide adequate shade and water for livestock, and citizens were encouraged to place water for birds on rooftops.
Additionally, the chief minister ordered the suspension of all outdoor activities in both public and private educational institutions during the heatwave. She emphasized the need to ensure functioning fans in classrooms, relaxed dress codes for students, and the availability of first aid kits in schools.
Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her government’s commitment to both education and public welfare, highlighting that student empowerment and community safety remain top priorities.
