Punjab has officially abolished all charges for birth and death registrations across the province, following a directive from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Under the newly implemented Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025, residents can now register births and deaths free of cost at Union Councils and Municipal Committees. This policy also removes the previous requirement of a court decree for delayed registrations, significantly simplifying the process.
Additionally, computerised birth and death certificates will be issued without any fee, as part of the government’s initiative to enhance public access to essential services.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that establishing one’s identity is a basic right of every citizen. She stated that the government is committed to making administrative procedures more accessible and citizen-friendly. A digital birth or death certificate is now a mandatory document for availing several services, and timely registration ensures that individuals can safeguard their legal and civic rights.
