PTI leader slams tax on solar energy, calls out government for neglecting farmers
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Waqas Akram on Wednesday claimed that the majority of farmers across the country support Imran Khan’s vision, as he criticized the government for its failure to address agricultural challenges.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Akram said, “We will continue to speak out against the injustices being done to farmers. The government says that 37% of the country’s labour force is made up of farmers — so what have they done for them?”
He questioned whether the government had taken any meaningful steps to ease the burden on farmers:
“Have fertiliser and seed prices been brought down? Has the tractor subsidy been restored?”
Akram also voiced concern over the imposition of taxes on solar energy, stating that many farmers had invested in solar systems to reduce dependence on expensive electricity.
“Instead of encouraging this shift to renewable energy, the government has taxed it,” he lamented.
The PTI leader urged the government to revisit its agricultural policies and provide relief to farmers, warning that continued neglect could deepen the rural economic crisis.
