New IRGC Aerospace Chief Appointed After Commander Killed in Strike
TEHRAN: A new wave of Israeli airstrikes targeted several cities in Iran on Saturday, with at least four strategic sites hit in the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan, according to Iranian media. Explosions were also reported in Khorramabad and Kermanshah, though Iranian officials have not yet confirmed the full extent of the damage.
Security sources suggest the strikes were directed at military and intelligence infrastructure, as hostilities between Israel and Iran escalate to new levels following a deadly flare-up earlier this week.
In response to the attacks, Iran is reportedly preparing a large-scale retaliatory strike. Iranian media claim that plans are in place to launch up to 2,000 missiles at Israel in the next phase of the conflict. Tehran has reportedly informed the United States, United Kingdom, and France of its intentions.
Amid fears of retaliation, Israeli police have mobilized 600 additional reserve officers, according to Arab media outlets. The move underscores mounting concerns about potential responses from Iran and its regional allies.
In a significant leadership change, Iran’s Supreme Leader has appointed Brigadier General Seyed Majid Mousavi as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force. The appointment comes after the reported killing of General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, who led the force for over a decade and was said to have been martyred in an Israeli airstrike just one day earlier.
