Calls for Priority Measures to Accelerate EV Adoption Nationwide
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate finalisation of the Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy 2025, emphasizing the need for swift, priority-based actions to promote the adoption and production of electric vehicles across the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the draft policy, the Prime Minister called for comprehensive stakeholder consultation and instructed that the final policy be submitted to the federal cabinet without delay.
The proposed policy was extensively reviewed during the meeting. Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the urgent need to accelerate the rollout of electric motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, cars, and buses throughout Pakistan.
He also highlighted the critical importance of developing the supporting EV infrastructure, including charging stations and battery swapping facilities, to enable a sustainable transition to electric mobility.
In addition, the Prime Minister directed relevant ministries and departments to facilitate the domestic industry, particularly in enhancing local manufacturing capacity for electric two- and three-wheelers.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahmed Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials.
