U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to announce within the next two weeks whether the United States will take military action in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, the White House confirmed on Wednesday.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt informed reporters that the president is carefully evaluating the situation, particularly in light of potential diplomatic engagement with Tehran.
Quoting Trump, Leavitt said, “Given the possibility that negotiations with Iran may or may not materialize in the near future, I will make a decision within the next two weeks on whether the U.S. will take action.”
The announcement comes as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, with ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran sparking global concern.
Leavitt emphasized that the U.S. government believes Iran is now closer than ever to acquiring a nuclear weapon. She added that President Trump is receiving constant intelligence updates and briefings from the National Security Council.
She also noted that Trump maintains continuous contact with Israeli officials, especially Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as part of efforts to assess the rapidly evolving situation.
“While the president is committed to seeking a diplomatic solution, he has made it clear that he will not hesitate to use military force if required,” Leavitt stated. “His preference is always diplomacy, but he won’t shy away from demonstrating strength when necessary.”
