Next week’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026 Group A qualifiers in Jordan have been called off because of the escalating air conflict between Iran and Israel, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced on Friday.
Singapore’s women’s side—set to meet Jordan, Iran, Lebanon and Bhutan in Amman—must now wait to begin their road to the 2026 finals, scheduled for March in Australia.
“The Lionesses’ qualifying campaign has been delayed after the Asian Football Confederation postponed all Group A fixtures,” the FAS said. “The decision follows the worsening regional security situation and logistical issues raised by several member associations.”
The AFC intends to stage the matches at a neutral site, but a replacement venue and dates have yet to be confirmed.
Hostilities between Israel and Iran flared last Friday when Israel launched strikes aimed at halting Iran’s alleged nuclear‑weapons development. Tehran, insisting its programme is peaceful, responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets.
