KHUZDAR: In a tragic attack in the Ardengji area of Khuzdar, unidentified gunmen killed Atta-ur-Rehman Mengal, son of former Balochistan Chief Minister Naseer Mengal, and injured his young grandson during a hunting expedition, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The ambush, reportedly carried out by over 30 armed assailants, occurred in a remote mountainous region. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar, Levies and Rescue 1122 teams were immediately dispatched to the area to secure the site and transport the injured.
The wounded child was airlifted to Khuzdar Civil Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Hospital sources described his condition as stable.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Security forces have launched a full-scale investigation and stepped up patrols across the region in an effort to track down the attackers. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The targeted killing has sparked concern in local political circles, given the prominent standing of the Mengal family in Balochistan’s political landscape.
