Atlas Honda announced on Tuesday that it plans to introduce an electric scooter tailored for the Pakistani market before the end of the current fiscal year. The move aligns with Pakistan’s recently unveiled National Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy, which aims to transition the country toward cleaner, more sustainable transportation.
The company made the announcement through an official communication submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), confirming that it is currently working closely with relevant regulatory authorities to secure the necessary approvals for the launch.
Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, emphasized that the new EV policy supports the government’s vision of promoting environmentally friendly, cost-effective transportation options. He also noted that the policy is designed to encourage local manufacturing while reducing the country’s carbon footprint.
A central goal of the EV policy is to ensure that 30% of all new vehicles sold in Pakistan by 2030 are electric. Officials estimate that such a shift could save approximately 2.07 billion litres of fuel annually, resulting in foreign exchange savings of nearly $1 billion.
Atlas Honda stated that it has already completed key stages of development for the electric scooter and is in the process of finalizing quality and road testing. “The company plans to roll out the product within the current financial year, following regulatory clearances,” the statement read.
This will not be Atlas Honda’s first step into electric mobility. In 2023, the company conducted a soft launch of its electric scooter model, the BENLY e, at its manufacturing plant in Sheikhupura. While the earlier launch was limited in scope, it served as a foundation for the broader, market-specific release now planned.
Market analysts suggest that Atlas Honda’s robust presence in the motorcycle sector positions it to be a key player in driving the adoption of electric two-wheelers in Pakistan. With the company’s established brand trust and extensive dealership network, the introduction of an EV scooter is expected to significantly boost consumer interest in electric mobility.
