President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that the United States was “not going to stand” for the ongoing prosecution of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over corruption allegations.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated, “The United States of America spends billions of dollars every year—far more than on any other nation—protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this.”
In response, Netanyahu thanked Trump on X, pledging that “together, we… will make the Middle East Great Again!”
This exchange came after an Israeli court on Friday dismissed Netanyahu’s attempt to delay his testimony in his corruption trial, citing a lack of sufficient grounds for postponement.
Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, face accusations of accepting luxury gifts valued at over $260,000, including cigars, jewelry, and champagne from wealthy businessmen in return for political favors. In two additional cases, Netanyahu is charged with seeking more favorable media coverage from Israeli outlets.
The Israeli leader maintains his innocence and recently expressed gratitude to Trump for supporting Israel during its recent conflict with Iran, which ended in a ceasefire earlier this week.
Netanyahu’s lawyer had requested a break from court proceedings over the next two weeks, arguing the prime minister must prioritize national security matters, a request the court ultimately denied.
