ISLAMABAD: On the eve of the International Day of Parliamentarism, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the vital role of Pakistan’s Parliament in upholding democratic values, inclusive governance, and constitutional integrity.
In a statement on June 30, President Zardari referred to Parliament as the “sovereign representative of the people and the guardian of constitutional values,” stressing its role in shaping national policy, defending fundamental freedoms, and ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
“Today, we observe the International Day of Parliamentarism by renewing our commitment to democracy, inclusivity, tolerance, and socio-economic justice,” the president said.

“Let us build a Pakistan where democracy thrives through strong institutions and where every citizen’s voice is heard and respected,” he concluded.
The International Day of Parliamentarism, observed annually on June 30, was established by the United Nations to recognize the essential role of parliaments in promoting transparency, representation, and sustainable development.
