Lakki Marwat – Two traffic police officers were shot dead by unidentified assailants on Tuesday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, police said.
According to Lakki Marwat police spokesperson Shahid Hameed, the officers were en route to Tajazai Adda for duty when they were ambushed by gunmen on Longkhel Road, near Gulbaz Dehqan village. The victims were identified as Israel and Sanaullah, both residents of the Longkhel area.
District Police Officer Mohammad Jawad Ishaq said the attackers—four in number—were riding two motorcycles. They opened fire on the officers, who were in civilian clothing, and fled with the victims’ submachine guns. A search operation has been launched.
The incident marks yet another attack in a district grappling with a resurgence in militant activity. Last week, the head of the Shahab Khel peace committee and two aides were killed in a similar targeted attack. In June, police conducted a search operation in the forested areas along the Kurram and Gambila Rivers, destroying several suspected terrorist hideouts.
Earlier in the month, three militants were killed and a police officer martyred in a gun battle in Kot Kashmir.
Two Suspected Militants Killed in Bannu Operation
In a separate incident, two suspected terrorists were killed during a joint operation by the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Bannu’s Domel tehsil, according to Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan.
The operation led to a 20-minute exchange of gunfire. The suspects, identified as Hussain Ahmed and Inaam alias Tooru, were residents of North Waziristan’s Haider Khel and were wanted in multiple terrorism cases, including IED blasts and targeted attacks on law enforcement.
Police recovered two AK-47s, four hand grenades, six magazines, 150 bullets, and two mobile phones from the scene. Several accomplices reportedly escaped using nearby bushes for cover, and a follow-up operation to apprehend them is underway.
RPO Sajjad said the action prevented a major potential terror attack and reaffirmed the security forces’ resolve to eliminate militancy in the region.
Last month, multiple suspects were arrested and heavy weaponry seized during a joint security operation involving police, CTD, and army units in Bannu.
