Exemption plea rejected over repeated absences from court proceedings
ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in connection with a case involving the alleged recovery of illegal arms and liquor.
Presiding over the hearing, Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti expressed strong dissatisfaction with Gandapur’s continued absence and his failure to record a statement under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The court rejected a plea submitted by the chief minister’s legal team seeking exemption from personal appearance, citing official duties. The judge noted that Gandapur’s repeated no-shows were obstructing judicial proceedings.
“The accused is deliberately evading the court process,” the judge remarked. “Non-bailable warrants are being issued to compel his appearance.”
The case has been adjourned until July 19, with orders issued to law enforcement agencies to ensure Gandapur’s presence at the next hearing.
