KARACHI — In a significant development in the mysterious death of model and actor Humaira Asghar, investigators have recovered crucial data from her electronic devices, which may offer new leads in the ongoing probe, police officials confirmed Saturday night.
Asghar, best known for her appearance on the reality show Tamasha Ghar and her role in the film Jalaibee, was found dead on July 8 in her apartment in Defence Phase VI’s Ittehad Commercial area, where she had lived alone for seven years. Her decomposed body was discovered when a court-appointed bailiff arrived to enforce an eviction order over unpaid rent.
Investigators say they managed to unlock her three mobile phones, a tablet, and a laptop using passwords written in a diary recovered from the same room where her body was found. The devices are now being thoroughly examined for clues into her final days.
Officials said the investigation has already led to the questioning of two individuals, with two more summoned. Asghar’s gym trainer, a beautician, and others from her inner circle are also being approached, as police attempt to reconstruct her last known movements and relationships.
Authorities noted that her bank accounts, financial transactions, and communication history reveal a small, close-knit contact list, suggesting she lived a relatively private life. Despite this, no immediate evidence of foul play has been found at the scene.
The exact cause of death remains unknown, pending post-mortem and chemical analysis reports, after which a formal case will be registered.
Sindh Police DIG South, Asad Raza, revealed earlier that the condition of the body suggests she may have died six months ago, citing the 2024 expiry dates on food items and the last messages on her phone from October 2024. The body was described by the police surgeon as being in an “advanced stage of decomposition.”
Humaira Asghar’s death follows closely on the heels of another tragic discovery — the passing of 84-year-old veteran actress Ayesha Khan, found dead in her flat in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area just three weeks earlier. Her body was also discovered after neighbors noticed a foul smell and alerted her family.
The back-to-back deaths of two female celebrities have sparked fresh concern over the isolation and vulnerability of women in the entertainment industry, particularly those living alone.
