Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York to represent Pakistan at several high-level UNSC events, including a pivotal international UNSC event focused on the Palestine issue. FM Dar’s visit marks a key moment in Pakistan’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council for July 2025, reinforcing the country’s diplomatic agenda on multilateralism, peacebuilding, and regional collaboration.
The Foreign Office confirmed that FM Dar will lead signature UNSC events from July 21 to 28, during which he will also participate in bilateral and multilateral meetings in both New York and Washington. These UNSC events are part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to strengthen its engagement on critical global matters, especially the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
A central focus of FM Dar’s participation in UNSC events will be his leadership role at the high-level conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” Co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France, this major UNSC event will take place on July 28 and 29. Pakistan will reiterate its unwavering support for Palestine’s right to self-determination and a just resolution to the decades-long conflict.
FM Dar was welcomed in New York by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, and Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh. According to the Foreign Office, this visit is especially significant due to the rescheduling of earlier engagements postponed because of the Iran-Israel conflict.
The Palestine-focused UNSC event is expected to attract international attention amid ongoing humanitarian devastation in Gaza, where over 58,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 8. Pakistan continues to advocate for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, calling on the global community to act with urgency.
In addition to the Palestine conference, FM Dar is also set to chair another key UNSC event focused on enhancing collaboration between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Foreign Office stated that this meeting aims to build synergy between the two bodies in advancing international peace and stability, reflecting Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation.
FM Dar will further hold important bilateral talks with global leaders and senior UN officials. A notable meeting is scheduled with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on July 25, underlining the strategic component of the visit.
As FM Dar navigates these high-profile UNSC events, Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities, including the promotion of peace in Palestine and stronger multilateral ties, remain at the forefront. His presence in New York underscores Islamabad’s proactive role in shaping global diplomatic discourse.
