After over three decades in the film industry, Shah Rukh Khan has finally earned one of India’s highest cinematic honors, the National Film Award. The iconic actor, often referred to as “King Khan,” secured the award for his performance in Jawan, a box-office sensation that became the highest-grossing film of 2023.
This marks Khan’s first National Award in a career filled with commercial success, critical acclaim, and widespread admiration. Sharing his reaction on social media, the superstar expressed deep emotion, saying the recognition filled him with “gratitude, pride, and humility.”
“This is a moment I will cherish for a lifetime,” he said, thanking the countless individuals who contributed to his journey. Khan gave a heartfelt shoutout to the directors and writers he worked with in 2023, especially Atlee, the director of Jawan. “Thank you, Raju sir, thank you, Sid, and especially, thanks to Atlee sir and his team for giving me the opportunity in Jawan and trusting me to deliver,” he said. He playfully quoted Atlee’s signature style by adding, “Atlee sir, this is like you say — ‘mass’!”
In his video message, the Pathaan actor also acknowledged his personal team and management. “They bear with my eccentricities and impatience, and give me their full attention, making me look much better than I am,” he remarked. “This award would not be possible without their love and perseverance.”
Khan then turned his attention to his family, offering touching words of appreciation. “My wife and kids have given me so much love and care — almost as if I am the child in the house. They always want the best for me,” he said. “They understand my obsession with cinema, which often takes me away from them, yet they endure it all with a smile and allow me that space.”
The actor reflected on the deeper meaning of the award, calling it more than a trophy — a signal of purpose and responsibility. “The National Award is not just about achievement. It’s a reminder that what I do matters. It tells me to keep going, keep working hard, keep creating, and keep serving cinema,” Khan said. “In a world full of noise, to be truly heard is a blessing.”
Shah Rukh Khan shared the National Award honor with Vikrant Massey, who was recognized for his role in 12th Fail.
Jawan, directed by Atlee, played a significant role in cementing Khan’s presence in the 2023 box office landscape. The film’s massive success further solidified his status as one of the most bankable and beloved actors in Indian cinema.
For an artist whose career has already spanned multiple generations and transformed Bollywood’s global appeal, this long-awaited recognition stands as a testament to his enduring impact and commitment to storytelling.
