The Pakistan Navy successfully concluded a two-day port security and harbour defence exercise at Karachi and Port Qasim. The extensive drill, held in collaboration with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), Karachi Port Trust, Coastal Command, and various other relevant organizations, aimed to bolster security measures around critical maritime infrastructure.
Organized under the supervision of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise was designed to enhance the readiness and response capabilities of all participating bodies in the face of potential maritime threats. These drills are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and operational continuity of Pakistan’s key ports and commercial hubs.
Enhancing Preparedness and Interagency Coordination
One of the primary objectives of the exercise was to ensure early identification and timely mitigation of any security threats to port facilities and naval installations. Various realistic scenarios were simulated to evaluate the collective performance, coordination, and communication between different maritime security stakeholders.
Special emphasis was laid on testing and improving integrated command-and-control mechanisms, inter-agency coordination, and advanced communication systems. The presence of multiple agencies allowed for a comprehensive review of response strategies under simulated emergency conditions, offering valuable insights into areas that require improvement.
Safeguarding Maritime Interests and Trade Flow
With Pakistan’s growing reliance on maritime trade, the strategic importance of ports such as Karachi and Port Qasim cannot be overstated. These ports handle the bulk of the country’s commercial shipping traffic, making their security a national priority.
The Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maritime security, as demonstrated through this exercise, reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding the nation’s economic interests. The Navy reiterated its resolve to maintain a secure and stable maritime environment, ensuring uninterrupted commercial operations and enhancing national resilience against evolving security challenges.
