Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) achieved record-breaking recoveries during the first six months of 2025, reclaiming misappropriated assets and returning funds to thousands of victims. The mid-year performance report highlights the bureau’s commitment to fighting corruption, protecting public resources, and ensuring that stolen assets are restored to their rightful owners.
Landmark Recovery Figures in 2025
From January to June 2025, NAB recovered a total of Rs547.31 billion in movable and immovable assets. Of this amount, a substantial Rs532.33 billion worth of properties were officially handed over to various ministries, provincial departments, and financial institutions. These assets, previously under illegal possession, are now back in government control for public benefit.
The bulk of the year’s recoveries came in the second quarter (April to June 2025), when NAB reclaimed Rs456.3 billion, representing an increase of over Rs365 billion compared to the Rs91.01 billion recovered in the first quarter.
Direct Relief to Fraud Victims
Alongside property recoveries, NAB returned funds to 12,611 individuals who were victims of various fraudulent schemes. These payments serve as both financial relief for those affected and a strong message that fraudulent activities will not go unpunished.
Two-Year Recovery Record
The bureau’s performance in 2025 builds upon its success in the previous years. Over the past two years, NAB has recovered assets worth Rs5,854.73 billion. This figure marks a 700% increase compared to the Rs839.08 billion recovered since NAB’s inception prior to this period.
These results reflect a strengthened and more proactive approach to accountability, with intensified operations against high-profile corruption cases and large-scale financial misconduct.
Focus on State Land Recovery
NAB is also working closely with provincial Revenue Departments to identify and reclaim state-owned properties and land illegally occupied by private entities or individuals. Preliminary estimates suggest that state land worth approximately Rs5 trillion remains under unlawful possession. The bureau has made this a priority area, with ongoing operations aimed at recovering these valuable national assets.
Strengthening Anti-Corruption Measures
The 2025 mid-year report reinforces NAB’s position as a key institution in the country’s fight against corruption. By focusing on both large-scale financial recoveries and the return of funds to individual victims, the bureau is demonstrating a comprehensive approach that addresses the needs of the state and its citizens.
With the momentum built in the first half of the year, NAB is expected to maintain or even surpass these recovery levels in the remaining months of 2025. If current trends continue, Pakistan could witness one of the highest annual recovery totals in its history, further consolidating efforts to uphold transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
