LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing for a major overhaul of its central contracts for the 2025–26 season, with player performance set as the primary benchmark for selection. Sources indicate that several underperforming players will likely lose their contracts, making way for fresh, in-form talent.
According to insiders, the consultation process is in its final stages. A thorough review of players’ recent form and consistency across formats is being conducted by PCB officials, including coaches, directors, and the finance department.
Players who have failed to maintain a regular spot in the national team across formats are unlikely to be retained in the new central contract list.
New Inclusions Likely as Underperformers Face Axe
Emerging and in-form players such as Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Haris, Sufyan Muqeem, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and Fakhar Zaman are among the top contenders expected to be included in the upcoming contracts. The performances of Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, and Sahibzada Farhan are also under review and may earn them a spot.
Conversely, players like Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Huraira, Haseebullah, Usman Khan, and Mohammad Ali face slim chances of making it to the list due to inconsistent performances or limited opportunities at the international level.
This reshuffle will be the final revision under PCB’s current three-year financial model, which was introduced to stabilize player earnings and provide long-term financial planning. The final contract list for the 2025–26 season will be made public once it receives formal approval from the PCB chairman.
