Precautionary Closure Ordered as Monsoon Intensifies Across Northern Pakistan
As relentless monsoon rains continue to lash parts of the country, all public and private educational institutions in Bagh district, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), have been ordered shut on August 18 and 19, 2025. The decision follows a high flood alert issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which has warned of potential flash floods and landslides in hilly regions.
The District Education Department Bagh issued an official notification stating that the closure is a precautionary measure to protect students and staff amid worsening weather conditions. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected across multiple districts, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber, over the coming days.
Officials confirmed that the monsoon system affecting northern Pakistan and AJK is gaining intensity, and that saturated ground conditions significantly increase the risk of landslides and sudden flooding. The Met Office has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Islamabad within the next 24 hours, with intervals of dry spells in between.
