Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has instructed party members to resign from all parliamentary committees. The announcement was made by his sister, Aleema Khan, after meeting him at Adiala Jail.
PTI Founder Rejects Participation in By-Elections
Aleema Khan stated that Imran Khan directed PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and General Secretary Salman Akram Raja not to contest by-elections. According to her, Imran believes that participating in by-polls would give legal cover to a process he rejects.
She revealed that Khan’s decision sparked internal disagreements within the party. While some members of the political committee supported contesting, others opposed it. Reports indicated that Raja considered resigning over the divide, though Khan refused to accept his resignation from the secretary general post.
Imran Khan Expresses Concern for Bushra Bibi
Aleema Khan also shared that Imran expressed deep concern about the condition of his wife, Bushra Bibi. He was also briefed about the arrests of PTI members Shershah and Shahrez in cases linked to the May 9 riots. Authorities allege both were involved in violence, including attacks on police, supported by video evidence.
Khan reportedly remarked that punishments and disqualifications being handed down were unprecedented in Pakistan’s history.
Criticism of Cricket Administration
During the meeting, Aleema quoted her brother as saying that cricket in Pakistan had been ruined under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, who is serving as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Reaction to Flood Devastation
Imran Khan also expressed sorrow over the destruction caused by recent floods in Buner and other regions. He highlighted the plight of affected families and urged that relief efforts be prioritized.
Health and Jail Meeting Updates
Addressing his health condition, Aleema confirmed that Imran Khan is in stable health but has developed an eye issue requiring medical attention. A petition will be filed to allow treatment by doctors from PIMS Hospital.
Aleema further explained that she and her sisters had not been able to meet Imran for several months. She called their recent meeting a blessing, noting it was the first time in four months all sisters had been permitted to see him.
The PTI founder’s directive for lawmakers to resign from parliamentary committees signals a new phase of political confrontation. His rejection of by-elections, concern for detained family members and colleagues, and criticism of governance reflect his continued influence despite imprisonment.
