Pakistan and Iran have renewed their pledge to jointly eradicate terrorism and strengthen security cooperation along their shared borders.
The reaffirmation came during a telephonic conversation between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Iran’s Chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi.
Joint Action Against Terrorism
During the call, Major General Mousavi stressed that Tehran was ready to collaborate with Islamabad to eliminate terrorism and ensure security along the Pakistan-Iran border. He highlighted that closer cooperation was essential for safeguarding both nations from cross-border threats.
Field Marshal Munir assured Pakistan’s firm resolve to work closely with Iran against terrorism and to maintain peace in the border regions. Both military leaders agreed that eliminating terrorism was a shared responsibility and a priority for long-term stability.
Solidarity and Humanitarian Support
The Iranian army chief also expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s flood-affected people. He said that Iran was willing to extend humanitarian assistance and would “proudly provide any support possible to its dear brothers in Pakistan.”
This gesture reinforced Tehran’s commitment to stand by Islamabad during crises while strengthening bilateral ties beyond security matters.
Cooperation During Regional Conflicts
Mousavi further appreciated Pakistan’s support for Iran during its recent conflict with Israel. He underlined that the two nations had consistently supported each other in times of need and continued to expand cooperation on multiple levels, including defense and diplomacy.
Strengthened Bilateral Relations
Earlier in August, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Pakistan on a two-day official trip to deepen cooperation. Accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers and officials, he held meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior leaders.
During the visit, both countries signed 12 agreements and MoUs covering diverse areas, including:
-
Plant protection and quarantine
-
Joint use of the Mirjaveh-Taftan border gate
-
Science, technology, and ICT cooperation
-
Cultural and media exchanges
-
Meteorology and maritime safety
-
Judicial assistance and air services
-
Product certification and tourism collaboration (2025–27)
These agreements reflect the two nations’ commitment to enhancing economic, technological, and cultural ties alongside security cooperation.
Shared Vision for Border Peace
In discussions with Pakistani leadership, President Pezeshkian emphasized that peace and prosperity in border regions depended on eliminating terrorism. He stressed that both nations had agreed to improve border management for the safety and welfare of their people.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed this sentiment, saying terrorism would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He stated that if terrorism affected Iran, it was no different than striking Pakistan. Both countries, therefore, must take decisive steps to uproot the menace permanently.
A Strategic Partnership for Regional Stability
The renewed commitment between Pakistan and Iran marks a significant step toward regional stability. With growing cooperation in defense, humanitarian aid, and bilateral trade, the partnership is expected to strengthen further under the framework of shared security and prosperity.
The two nations remain determined to stand united in eradicating terrorism, protecting their borders, and fostering peace for future generations.
