The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday nominated Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas for the same role in the Senate, following a joint meeting of the party’s parliamentary members from both houses.
Joint Decision Finalized
The nominations were confirmed during a joint session of PTI’s parliamentary parties in the Senate and National Assembly, where consensus was reached on the leadership roles. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said the selections reflect a unified strategy by the party to lead an effective opposition in Parliament.
Nomination Papers to Be Filed Tuesday
Achakzai’s nomination papers for the National Assembly will be formally submitted to the Secretariat on Tuesday, while Raja Nasir’s papers for the Senate leadership will be filed the same day.
“We have officially nominated both leaders. The paperwork will be completed tomorrow,” Gohar confirmed, adding that PTI’s parliamentary team is “ready to play a constructive and assertive opposition role.”
Press Conference Outside Parliament
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja said Aamir Dogar will submit the official documents for both nominations. “Tomorrow will mark a new chapter in our parliamentary politics,” he stated.
Aamir Dogar also hailed the decision, calling it “a wise step by the PTI founder.” He revealed that Rule 39 of the Parliament House has been invoked from today, and that a resolution signed by party MNAs will be submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
A Unified Opposition Front
With these nominations, PTI aims to strengthen its position as the primary opposition force in both chambers, coordinating its efforts under a shared leadership strategy.
