As Stranger Things gears up for its much-anticipated final season, star Finn Wolfhard has admitted that the cast is feeling the pressure to deliver a satisfying conclusion — and avoid the kind of backlash that plagued the ending of Game of Thrones.
In a recent interview with The Times, the 22-year-old actor, who has portrayed Mike Wheeler since the show’s debut in 2016, revealed that he and his co-stars were initially anxious about fan reactions.
“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” said Wolfhard. “The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.’”
Scripts Bring Confidence for Final Season
Despite the nerves, Wolfhard said that reading the scripts for Season 5 eased their concerns and reignited excitement among the cast.
“But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special,” he added, expressing hope that fans will appreciate how the story concludes.
Netflix has confirmed that the final season of Stranger Things will be released in three volumes. Volume 1 is set to drop on November 26, followed by Volume 2 on December 25. The series finale will be released on December 31, giving fans a dramatic end to the year.
Most Ambitious Season Yet, Say Creators
Earlier this month, series co-creator Ross Duffer teased the scale and intensity of the final season, calling it the most ambitious project the Duffer Brothers have ever undertaken.
“We spent a full year filming this season. By the end, we’d captured over 650 hours of footage,” Ross said. “So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet. It’s like eight blockbuster movies.”
As the countdown to the end of Stranger Things begins, fans and cast alike are hoping the show will stick the landing — and close out one of Netflix’s most beloved series with the powerful ending it deserves.
