The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has formally submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly expressing full support for the 27th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as a vital step toward institutional stability, transparency, and judicial independence.
The resolution, moved by PML-N lawmaker Hina Parvez Butt, emphasizes that the proposed amendment will help ensure balance among state institutions, strengthen the federal structure, and enhance public trust in Pakistan’s constitutional framework.
“This House fully supports the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which guarantees institutional stability and transparency in the judicial structure of Pakistan,” the text of the resolution reads.
Resolution Highlights Provincial Autonomy and Grassroots Empowerment
The Punjab Assembly resolution underlined that the 27th Amendment upholds provincial autonomy and maintains federal balance, reinforcing the foundation of a united and democratic federation. It further noted that the devolution of power to the grassroots level is essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring citizens’ participation in governance.
“The House considers the empowerment of citizens and local governments vital for an effective democracy,” it stated.
The resolution also called for constitutional protection for the local government system, stressing that doing so would prevent administrative disruptions and political interference in local governance.
Support for Constitutional Court and Electoral Reforms
In a significant endorsement, the resolution welcomed the establishment of a constitutional court, describing it as a move that would enhance judicial independence and impartiality within Pakistan’s legal system.
It further highlighted that the 27th Amendment would strengthen both provincial autonomy and federal cooperation, while also empowering the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by making it more autonomous and effective in overseeing transparent elections.
The submission of the resolution reflects the PML-N’s strong backing for the federal government’s proposed constitutional reforms, which aim to streamline governance, reinforce the rule of law, and ensure institutional harmony across Pakistan.
