Pixar introduces Lilypad, a talking high-tech gadget, as the toys face challenges of the digital age.
Pixar has officially dropped the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, setting the stage for a brand-new chapter in the beloved franchise. The film is slated to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, marking the next evolution in the story that began nearly three decades ago.
A New Digital Rival Arrives
The teaser opens with Bonnie Anderson, the younger sister of Andy, unwrapping a mysterious package. Inside is Lilypad, a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee. As Bonnie quickly becomes absorbed in her new gadget, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the toys grow anxious — hinting at a central theme of staying relevant in a rapidly digitalizing world.
“Change is coming,” Buzz says in the clip, while Woody looks on with concern as Bonnie spends more time with the new device than her toys. The trailer’s mix of nostalgia and modern commentary has already sparked excitement — and curiosity — among fans online.
Familiar Faces and New Voices
Returning to their iconic roles are Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, and Tony Hale as Forky. Joining the cast are Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, and Greta Lee as Lilypad.
The film is directed and written by Andrew Stanton, the creative force behind Pixar classics such as Finding Nemo and Wall-E.
With Toy Story 5, Pixar aims to balance nostalgia with innovation — reuniting fans with their favorite characters while introducing a fresh, tech-driven storyline that mirrors today’s digital realities.
The Toy Story franchise, which began in 1995, remains one of Pixar’s most celebrated series, with each film exploring friendship, purpose, and the passage of time. Given its emotional legacy and new direction, Toy Story 5 is already among 2026’s most anticipated releases.
