Attack planned in Afghanistan under Khawarij commander Noorwali Mehsud’s orders; all assailants neutralised in swift operation
ISLAMABAD: Security sources have confirmed that the deadly attack on Cadet College Wana in North Waziristan was orchestrated from across the Afghan border, with all militants involved identified as Afghan nationals.
According to intelligence officials, the assault — which took place on November 10 — was masterminded by a Khawarij militant named Zahid, who planned the operation under direct instructions from Afghanistan. The attackers executed the assault after receiving operational guidance and weaponry from handlers based in Afghan territory.
Sources added that notorious Khawarij commander Noorwali Mehsud personally ordered the attack and later instructed the militant outfit Jaish Al Hind to claim responsibility for the operation. Security officials also revealed that the weapons used in the assault — including US-manufactured firearms — were smuggled into Pakistan from Afghanistan.
Swift Response and Successful Rescue Operation
During the attack, a vehicle loaded with explosives was rammed into the main gate of Cadet College Wana, causing extensive damage to the entrance and nearby structures. At the time, approximately 650 people, including 525 cadets, were present on the campus.
Pakistani Army troops responded immediately, launching a rapid counter-operation that neutralised all assailants before they could enter the main premises. Security forces successfully evacuated all students and staff members without any casualties among them.
Cross-Border Terror Links Under Scrutiny
The attack has intensified concerns about cross-border terrorism and the presence of militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan. Pakistani officials have repeatedly warned that groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates continue to use Afghan soil to launch attacks on Pakistan.
Security forces have vowed to strengthen surveillance and border security measures to prevent future cross-border infiltrations.
