Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan has instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to establish new toll plazas across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as part of a broader plan to enhance provincial road infrastructure, increase revenue generation, and ensure transparency in development projects. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad, where the minister received an extensive briefing on ongoing and upcoming NHA initiatives.
Khan emphasized that the revenue collected from the new toll plazas would be exclusively dedicated to the rehabilitation and improvement of KP’s rapidly deteriorating road network. He made it clear that the funds generated must remain within the province to support sustainable development and uninterrupted maintenance. The minister also issued a stern warning against incidents of vandalism or disruptions at toll plazas, stating that such actions would be met with strict measures.
Revenue Generation to Support KP’s Road Rehabilitation
During the briefing, NHA officials highlighted various development projects currently underway. Aleem Khan underscored that efficient revenue collection is essential for the continuity of these projects, as well as for future expansions. He directed the immediate establishment of toll plazas at selected strategic points to ensure a consistent financial stream for road-related improvements.
Khan further instructed that all NHA projects with liabilities exceeding Rs10 million must undergo mandatory inspections. This measure aims to enhance accountability, verify project progress, and prevent financial irregularities. He stressed that financial discipline and timely evaluations are key to ensuring that development remains on track.
Commitment to Transparency and Zero Tolerance for Corruption
Reiterating his commitment to eradicating corruption within the NHA, Aleem Khan warned that no officer or staff member involved in corrupt practices would be spared. He emphasized that transparency, integrity, and good governance must be upheld at every operational level. The minister also assured that strict oversight mechanisms would be implemented to promote ethical conduct and prevent mismanagement.
The meeting was attended by Communications Secretary Ali Sher Mahsud along with several senior NHA officials, reflecting the government’s renewed resolve to improve infrastructure and strengthen institutional accountability across KP.
