Authorities have confirmed that the owner of a fireworks factory in Hyderabad died in the devastating explosion that struck the unit over the weekend. With this confirmation, the death toll from the incident has now increased to ten.
Factory Owner Identified Through DNA Analysis
Investigators reported that Asad, the factory owner, was inside the building when the blast occurred. DNA samples taken from his son matched remains recovered from the debris. Therefore, officials verified Asad’s death after laboratory confirmation. Police also stated that DNA tests were conducted on three bodies, including two that were initially unidentifiable.
Moreover, the other two bodies examined have now been identified as Faisal and Rizwan, which brings clarity to the previously unknown victims.
Investigation Continues Despite Owner’s Death
The explosion case was already registered at B-Section Police Station, and Asad, along with his partners, had been nominated in the report. Despite his confirmed death, investigators said the case would still proceed. However, they noted that further inquiries would determine responsibility and potential negligence.
Rising Casualties as Injured Victims Succumb
Earlier, two injured workers, 45-year-old Shiraz and 35-year-old Naeem, passed away at a hospital in Karachi. Their conditions had been critical since the incident. Meanwhile, three more victims are still receiving treatment at Civil Hospital Hyderabad, and their condition remains serious.
Blast Site Completely Destroyed
The explosion took place on Saturday in a fireworks unit located near the riverbank in Leghari Goth, Latifabad No. 10. The blast was so powerful that it was heard several kilometres away. Consequently, the force of the explosion levelled the factory structure and left workers trapped under massive piles of debris.
Rescue Teams Conducted Hours-Long Operation
Rescue teams, supported by police and Rangers, reached the scene quickly and began an extended operation. They pulled survivors and bodies from the rubble and continued searching for any remaining victims. Although the operation concluded, officials stated that assessments of the structural damage would continue.
As the investigation advances, authorities are expected to review safety compliance, storage conditions and operational practices at the fireworks unit. The community remains shaken as families wait for updates and demand accountability for the tragic loss of life.
