Dove Cameron is officially 30, thriving, and embracing life on her own terms. The actor and singer recently celebrated her milestone birthday with a vibrant wig-and-pajama party and surprised fans by announcing her engagement to Måneskin frontman Damiano David, her partner of over two years.
Beyond the engagement news, Cameron is keeping busy professionally. She stars in an upcoming erotic thriller, 56 Days, which she described to Vogue as her most adult role yet, and has become the face of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liquid Stick Retractable Liner.
“Honestly, I am a beauty chameleon by design,” Cameron told me over the phone. She loves keeping fans guessing by switching up her hair color or makeup based on her mood. “I get so bored. I get so, Who do I want to be today?”
One beauty habit, however, remains non-negotiable: eyeliner. “You will never, ever, ever, ever, ever catch me out of the house without eyeliner,” she says, laughing. A longtime fan of bold liquid liner, Cameron uses it to accentuate her almond-shaped eyes, lately experimenting with Urban Decay’s burgundy and fig shades, which highlight her green eyes.
True to her signature style, Cameron shared her engagement on Instagram in a red dress with her classic winged eyeliner, captured by friends during a New Year’s getaway. But the proposal itself, she reveals, was a far more intimate and low-key moment back in October.
“For the actual proposal, I wasn’t wearing any makeup,” Cameron recalls. “I was completely barefaced ’cause I had no idea that it was gonna be that day. I was in my big T-shirt, slightly damp hair, and no makeup. It was very sweet that way.”
Looking ahead to her wedding day, Cameron has a go-to product: Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Makeup Setting Spray. “It’s the only setting spray that doesn’t wear off, holds my makeup in place, and doesn’t dry me out,” she says.
But Cameron doesn’t plan to follow traditional bridal beauty norms. “Honestly, for my actual wedding day, I don’t want to do something too traditional,” she explains. “Every time I have my makeup done in a very pretty, gold-wash look with just a little mascara, I don’t feel like myself. I feel like I’m performing for this idea that a woman looks best with the least amount of makeup.”
Instead, she prefers a natural, personal style. “I would rather be in literally no makeup, or like a sort of smudgy eye,” she says. “Like I threw on some eyeliner and I messed it up myself kind of thing.”
At 30, engaged, and creatively flourishing, Dove Cameron proves she’s unapologetically herself—whether on the red carpet, in her latest film role, or on her wedding day.
