Pakistan Post Highest T20I Total Against Australia
Pakistan delivered a dominant performance in the second T20I against Australia at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday. Opting to bat first, the home side posted a massive total of 198/5 in their 20 overs. This total is Pakistan’s highest score against Australia in T20Is. It surpassed the previous record of 194/7, set during the 2018 Zimbabwe-hosted tri-series.
The record-breaking innings was led by captain Salman Ali Agha and wicketkeeper batter Usman Khan. Agha top-scored with a blistering 76 off just 40 balls. His innings included eight fours and four sixes. Usman Khan supported him well with a 53-run knock from 36 balls. Usman struck six boundaries, including two sixes. Their partnership set the tone for Pakistan’s strong total.
Pakistan’s aggressive batting put immense pressure on Australia right from the start. The home side’s total of 198 proved too high for the visiting team to chase.
Spinners Dominate as Australia Collapses
Australia’s chase of 199 runs began on a shaky note and quickly turned into a collapse. Pakistan’s spinners dominated the Australian batting lineup, sharing all 10 wickets between them. This was the first time Pakistan spinners had taken all 10 wickets in a T20I. It was also only the second time in T20I history that spinners claimed all 10 wickets in a match between two full-member nations.
The first team to achieve this feat was India, during their fifth away T20I against the West Indies in 2022. Overall, it was the 10th instance in T20Is where spinners took all 10 wickets.
Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan led the spin attack, picking up three wickets each. Usman Tariq claimed two wickets, while Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz took one wicket apiece. The combined spin effort dismantled Australia’s batting lineup. The visitors were bowled out for just 108 runs in 15.4 overs, suffering a crushing 90-run defeat.
The victory marked Pakistan’s biggest win over Australia in T20Is. The previous largest margin was 66 runs, achieved in the first T20I of the 2018 series in the United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan’s Win Highlights Growing Dominance
The comprehensive victory underlined Pakistan’s strong form in the series. The team’s batting and bowling units performed in perfect harmony. Pakistan’s spinners, in particular, showcased world-class control and variety. Their dominance proved decisive in restricting Australia to a low total.
The win also secured Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. With one match still to play, Pakistan now have a chance to seal the series with a clean sweep.
The Gaddafi Stadium witnessed a memorable performance from Pakistan, with the team setting new benchmarks in T20 cricket. The record total and dominant spin bowling display will boost the team’s confidence ahead of the final T20I.
