Intelligence-Based Operation Conducted in Tent Settlement
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested a young woman suspected of planning a suicide attack in Dera Ismail Khan. The arrest was made during an intelligence-based operation in the Sheikh Yousaf tent settlement area. Officials confirmed the development on Saturday.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the raid was carried out by the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. The operation followed actionable intelligence about a possible militant plot in the area. Security personnel cordoned off the settlement before conducting a targeted search.
Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody without resistance. She was later shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation. Officials described the operation as a major success in preventing a potential act of terrorism.
Police recovered a commando bag from the tent during the raid. The bag reportedly contained a 30-bore pistol with ammunition, two mobile phones, a power bank and other items. All recovered material has been taken into custody for forensic examination.
Alleged Links to Banned Militant Outfit
During initial questioning, investigators claim the suspect confessed to having links with a banned outfit. She allegedly told authorities that she had agreed to carry out a suicide attack. According to officials, she stated that a suicide jacket and target were to be provided to her at a later stage.
CTD officials said the woman hails from Waziristan. They alleged she is associated with the outlawed group Fitna al-Khawarij. Authorities described her as a close aide to a militant commander identified as Shah Wali alias Tariq Kochi.
Investigators further claimed that she received training from the commander. Another militant identified as Asim was allegedly tasked with providing the suicide vest and final target details.
Officials also reported that preliminary digital analysis of the mobile phones recovered from her possession revealed alleged contacts with members of the banned group. They claimed the data indicated consent for a suicide mission. The devices have been sent for detailed forensic review.
Police Leadership Praises Swift Action
Zulfiqar Hameed, Inspector General of Police, praised the CTD team for the successful operation. He commended the swift response of the SWAT unit and announced a cash reward for the officers involved.
Law enforcement agencies said the operation foiled a major terrorist plan. Officials stressed that proactive intelligence sharing and timely action helped prevent possible loss of life.
The CTD reaffirmed its commitment to counterterrorism efforts across the province. Authorities stated that such intelligence-based operations will continue to ensure peace and stability in sensitive regions.
Security has been heightened in surrounding areas following the arrest. Further investigations are under way to identify possible accomplices and trace the broader network allegedly involved.
Officials said additional updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
