ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court today granted pre-arrest bail to PTI Chairman Imran Khan through his lawyer Babar Awan in the contempt of court case against the PTI chair. The court opened on Sunday and approved the bail.
PTI leader Babar Awan filed bail petition a day after a magistrate of Islamabad’s Margalla Police Station issued an arrest warrant for the PTI chairman in the case registered against him on August 20 for his remarks against Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry.
The FIR against Khan carries four sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) _ 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) _ 189 (threat of injury to public servant) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
On Saturday, Islamabad police said on Twitter that Imran Khan did not appear before the court in the last hearing. Consequently, the warrant was issued to ensure his attendance in the next proceeding of the case.
The federal police said the court had directed to remove sections pertaining to terrorism from the case following which the case was transferred to a sessions court.
Imran Khan did not obtain bail from the sessions court and warned that he could be apprehended on failing to appear before the sessions court.
