ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly today gave approval for amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, wherein MNAs will not be arrested without permission of NA Speaker.
Earlier, any MNA could be arrested anytime, but this will not happen any more without prior approval from the Speaker of National Assembly:
“In case of arrest of any MNA in a criminal case, the committing judge, magistrate or executive authority shall immediately seek approval of the Speaker by disclosing the reasons for the arrest or detention.”
PML-N MNA Murtaza Javed Abbasi presented amendment resolutions in the Parliament on Thursday. Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani was presiding over the session of the house at that time.
“No member shall be arrested within the precincts of the Assembly.”

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested that it should be mandatory for the NA speaker or chairman of a committee to issue production orders for detained MNAs.
