Chairman National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) Asad Umar shared the news of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccines to be delivered to Pakistan. On Saturday, the chief NCOC shared the good news saying COVAX indicated the supply of up to 17 million doses by AstraZeneca in the first half of 2021.
Asad Umar took it to Twitter and announced the news saying, “Good news on COVID vaccine front. Received a letter from COVAX of (an) indicative supply of up to 17 million doses of AstraZeneca in 1st half 2021”.
Umar specified that 6 million of the total 17 million doses will be received by March with delivery starting in February. He did not share any dates.
Pakistan is 92nd among the 192 countries that qualify for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) COVAX initiative that ensures “rapid and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all countries, regardless of income level”.
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) gave authorization for both the Chinese-manufactured Sinopharm and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines earlier this month.
