ISLAMABAD: Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will summon the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNAs in-person for verification of their resignations.
NA Speaker has stated this in a letter he wrote to PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
PTI leader Qureshi had sent a letter to Speaker of the National Assembly on Dec 15 to take up verification of PTI lawmakers resignations.
On April 11, 2022, PTI MNAs resigned en bloc to protest against ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister through a no-trust move.

NA Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf has cited decisions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Islamabad High Court for not accepting the resignations of the lawmakers without their in-person verification.
According to letter, “It has to be held that before accepting a resignation of a member, the Speaker has to satisfy himself regarding genuineness and voluntary character of the resignation.”
NA Speaker further stated that the PTI MNAs did not appear in-person from June 6 to 10 when he summoned them for verification.
Meanwhile in July this year, Speaker of the Parliament accepted the resignations of 11 PTI MNAs.

Shireen Mazari, Ijaz Ahmed Shah, Ali Muhammad Khan, Farrukh Habib, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Shaukat Ali, Fakhar Zaman Khan, Jamil Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Akram Cheema, Abdul Shakoor Shad and Shandana Gulzar Khan were amongst the PTI MNAs whose resignations were accepted.
