ISLAMABAD: Mickey Arthur has accepted offer of Pakistan Cricket Board to become coach of Pakistan team once again.
Mickey Arthur, however, showed resentment against his unceremonial ouster from the coach position last time and demanded that this should not happen again.
According to sources, Arthur’s contract with English county Derbyshire is ending soon and he would join PCB as coach after the contract of Saqlain Mushtaq expires in February 2023.
Mickey Arthur is a South African-Australian former cricketer. 54-year-old Arthur served as Pakistan’s coach from May 2016 to August 2019.
During his tenure Pakistan became No.1 Test team in 2016 and won the Champions Trophy in 2017. Arthur’s efforts also supported Pakistan win T20 in 2018.
The coalition government has removed Ramiz Raja and appointed Najam Sethi as the chairman of the interim board of the PCB.
Soon after joining PCB, Najam Sethi has started making sweeping changes in the national cricket team and structure of the board.
Last week, cricket legend Shahid Afridi was appointed as chief selector/head of the selection committee. The PCB also included former cricketer Abdul Razak in the selection committee.
Meanwhile, from Feb 2023, Mickey Arthur is also expected to join the cricket board.
