Lahore High Court orders release of PTI leader Shah mahmood Qureshi
RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Qureshi has been arrested after the May 9 violent protests.
PTI leader and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has been arrested multiple times since his first arrest.
On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench ordered that Qureshi should not be arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) anymore. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz presided conducted the hearing of the case.
The court also declared Rawalpindi deputy commissioner’s MPO orders illegal and directed authorities to immediately release the PTI vice chairman without asking him to submit surety bonds.
Assistant Attorney General Abid Aziz Rajouri represented the government’s side, while lawyer Taimoor Malik and Qureshi’s daughter were there for the PTI leader.
Moreover, the Punjab police presented its report in the court about the cases against Qureshi.
Nine cases have been registered against Qureshi across Punjab _ four of these cases were registered in Lahore, while five cases have been registered in Multan. Daughter of Shah Mahmood Qureshi filed the plea in the court seeking release of her father.
Arrest of PTI leaders/supporters declared illegal
Earlier, Lahore High Court declared arrests of PTI leaders and workers unlawful and ordered their release forthwith.
The LHC Judge Justice Safdar Saleem Shahid ordered the release of party workers and leaders, arrested from 11 districts in Punjab — Lahore, Sheikhupura, Wazirabad, Jhang, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Nankana Sahib, Gujranwala, and Narowal.

The court also declared null and void the arrest of senior PTI leader Yasmin Rashid and ordered her release.
The leaders and workers of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf are facing the wrath of the state after the May 9 attacks on the military installations, including the Lahore Corps Commanders House.
The PTI workers also attacked the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on May 9, soon after the arrest of Imran Khan.
