PPP’s Murtaza Wahab
KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Murtaza Wahab of Pakistan Peoples Party won Karachi’s mayoral elections with 173 votes.
PPP’s Murtaza Wahab waves to his supporters during voting for Karachi Mayor. He won the election by securing 173 votes.
His rival, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami secured 160 votes. Thus, PPP’s Murtaza Wahab got 13 more votes than his rival candidate.

Interestingly, about 34 elected representatives of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf did not participate in the election of Karachi’s Mayor.
On Thursday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held the election for the Karachi mayor and deputy mayor of the port city.
The ECP held polls at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi.
PPP-JI workers clash
Supporters of the PPP and Jamaat-e-Islami developed a brawl outside Karachi Arts Council soon after the election of Karachi Mayor.
JI leaders raised the issue of manipulation by the PPP in the election. JI leaders said the PPP government did not allow the PTI representatives to attend voting process and deprived them of their right to vote for JI candidate Naeemur Rehman.
Supporters of both the parties pelted stones one one another and also developed physical brawls. The situation became ugly after the result of Karachi Mayor’s election surfaced.
