Russian submarine commander
According to law enforcement authorities, a Russian submarine commander and deputy chief responsible for military mobilization in the southern city of Krasnodar was assassinated on Monday.
The incident occurred on Monday morning, leading to the initiation of a criminal investigation.
The victim, Stanislav Rzhitsky, was not only a high-ranking officer but also commanded a submarine within the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Some Ukrainian online news outlets alleged that this particular submarine was involved in launching Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukrainian targets.
Rzhitsky had previously served as the commander of the Krasnodar submarine, which was named after the city itself and operated under the Russian Navy, Russian media reported today.
It remains uncertain whether he was still serving as the submarine’s captain at the time of the tragic event.
As stated by the Russian defense ministry, the Krasnodar submarine is a diesel-electric vessel specifically designed for the Black Sea Fleet.
Its primary functions include engaging surface ships and submarines, laying mines, and carrying out reconnaissance operations.
Several online media sources reporting on events in Russia and Ukraine claimed that Rzhitsky was shot four times during his morning jog near a sports complex.
Additionally, they alleged that he was involved in a missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia in July 2022, which resulted in the loss of 23 civilian lives, including three children. This attack was said to have been executed by submarine-launched missiles.
Last year, Russia attempted to justify the missile attack and asserted that their submarine-launched missiles had targeted a gathering of Ukrainian air force commanders and representatives from Western arms suppliers.
