The death toll in Turkish drone attack on a military academy in Syria on Thursday surged to 112.
Earlier, Syrian authorities reported 60 casualties in the devastating assault on a Syrian military academy. Authorities have attributed responsibility for the drone strike in the central province of Homs to “terrorist organizations.”
The grim circumstances surrounding this tragedy unfolded during the graduation ceremony for military academy officers.
Syria’s defense ministry revealed that the assailants utilized weaponized drones to execute their deadly mission.
Initially, the country’s Health Minister, Hassan al-Ghobash, reported a lower casualty count. It included six women and six children, offering a preliminary assessment. Furthermore, approximately 240 individuals sustained injuries of varying severity.
Amidst the chaos, Turkey’s defense ministry announced a series of air strikes in northern Syria, targeting 30 locations of terror outfits. Turkiye blamed Syrian terror outfits for a deadly bomb blast in Ankara this week.
The devastating consequences of this horrific incident extended beyond the military academy itself. In another tragic development, Turkish air raids in the Kurdish-held northeastern region of the country resulted in the loss of at least 11 lives.
This retaliatory action by Ankara was prompted by a prior bomb attack, which had raised the specter of such reprisals.
Meanwhile, the attack, which took place in the central province of Homs. The ministry attributed the attack to “terrorist” groups using drones but did not specify any particular organization.

During the graduation ceremony, Syria’s defense minister was present but left just minutes before the attack, according to sources within Syria’s security apparatus and a source from the regional alliance supporting the Damascus government against opposition factions.
