In a recent disclosure against the former ruling party, Asif Ali Zardari, the Co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), asserted that the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had proposed six ministries to his party in exchange for joining the government at the federal level.
During an interview with Hamid Mir on “Capital Talk,” broadcasted on Thursday, the former president revealed that he was advised to leave the country as the PTI government aimed to form an alliance with a PPP excluding Zardari. Zardari stated, “[The PPP] was offered six ministries in exchange for contesting elections with the PTI.”
Discussing the removal of the PTI-led regime in April 2022 through a no-confidence motion, Zardari expressed his belief that it was the right decision. He accused Imran Khan of isolating Pakistan globally, damaging the economy, and straining bilateral relations.
Zardari also claimed that Imran Khan intended to manipulate the electoral process with the assistance of a military officer to stay in power until 2028. He warned of a severe economic crisis if Imran had succeeded in extending his tenure, saying, “A truck full of money would be required to buy even one litre of milk.”
These revelations by Zardari align with a previous audio leak where a property tycoon conveyed a message from the then-prime minister, Imran Khan, seeking PPP’s support to thwart the no-confidence motion.
As elections approach, Zardari emphasized that his party is actively engaged in its campaign, anticipating general elections on February 8 next year.
