RAWALPINDI: Protesters surrounded a vehicle carrying former First Lady Bushra Begum outside Adiala Jail on Monday, raising slogans against her. Bushra Begum attended a hearing related to the £190 million scandal involving her husband, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, held inside the jail compound. The protesters demanded action against her in connection with an alleged illegal marriage case.
In a video of the incident, a small group of men can be seen surrounding the black vehicle, which was briefly halted before managing to speed away. The scandal involves Imran Khan and Bushra Begum allegedly taking bribes to settle a case with property tycoon Malik Riaz in the Al-Qadir Trust case, later renamed the £190 million case.
Bushra’s former husband, Khawar Maneka, claimed in a recent interview that she had married Khan before completing her iddat (waiting period). Following the interview, he filed a case against Bushra and Imran, citing their ‘un-Islamic’ marriage.
Raza Rabbani Highlights Political Dependency on Establishment: All Parties Turning Towards External Forces
The establishment’s supremacy has overshadowed civilian structure, to the point that questions are being raised on its entire existence, said former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani.
Speaking at a book launch during the Adab Festival at Habitt City, Raza Rabbani noted that while the military establishment played a role in politics during the 80s and 90s, its involvement wasn’t as overt as it is today.
He suggested that the lack of transparency among politicians led to compromises, with political parties now looking toward the establishment for support.

Rabbani reflected on Benazir Bhutto’s struggle for democracy and principled politics during that era, lamenting the current state of Pakistani politics, which he believes lacks principles.
